LÖWCHEN

The
Little Lion Dog of the Middle Ages

The
Prince of Beasts
The
legend is that, amongst the Crusading Knights of the Middle Ages, it
was
custom for a Knight who died in battle to be depicted with his
foot on the body
of a Lion. If he died but not of battle, then he was depicted with
a Little Lion
Dog at his feet.
Similarly, the Knight ladies were depicted with a Löwchen on their
tombs.
Groomed and trimmed to resemble a lion in miniature, it too
symbolized
leonine courage.
Though on a slightly lesser degree than the King of Beasts.
