BACKGROUND
Believed to have originated
in Germany, Affenpinscher translates as "Monkey Terrierr
which describes this little dog very well. In the farmlands
of Germany they survived on hunting rats and mice and so
protected the farmers supply of winter food.
A very old breed, with
paintings dating back to the 1820's. In the 1850's two small
breeds appeared, rough coat being the Affenpinscher and
smooth coat, the Miniature Pinscher.
The two World Wars on the
Continent made the breed almost disappear however it is now
emerging again thanks to some dedicated people.
CARE REQUIREMENTS
The Affenpinscher needs
little grooming, a comb and/or brush regularly and a bath
now and then, only trimming its hair around feet and cutting
of toenails, but they prefer the scruffy look. This helps
with the hair around the face hence the popular name "Monkey
Dog".
AVERAGE LIFESPAN
When considering a dog, please realize
that you are taking it on for its lifetime. Affenpinschers'
life expectancy ranges between 10 and 14 years of age.
AVERAGE SIZE & WEIGHT
9 1/2 to 11 inches (24 - 28
cms).
6 1/2 to 9 lbs (3 - 4 kgs).

COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER PETS
They will mix with other dogs
with no aggression. Remember he is a scruffy urchin who
hunted rats and mice originally.
BREED
PERSONALITY/CHARACTERISTICS/ TEMPERAMENT
The Affenpinscher is a
quaint, comical dog, loves company, loves to show off to
their owners, eager to please, having no vice, placid and
usually quiet. It will only bark if something very unusual
is happening within its territory.
They are an even natured dog.
Affenpinschers are devoted to the people who own them and
not at all interested in folk they do not know.
Being a small dog they can be
carried anywhere their owners wish and this they love very
much as they are eager to please and love their own family
and areas.
They are not really happy in
a kennel but will adapt.
