BACKGROUND
This breed's history goes back a long way
appearing in paintings as far back as 1200-1300's. Known then as the `Toy
Spaniel' and being owned by royalty and nobles. Many paintings feature the
`Toy Spaniel' with dropped ears called the `Phalene' (moth). Now we have
both varieties. The large erect ears called `Papillon' and dropped ears
called `Phalene' - both are equally correct.
AVERAGE LIFESPAN
When considering a dog, please realize that
you are taking it on for its lifetime. Papillon's age can range up to
10-16 years. The average being 12-14 years.
AVERAGE SIZE & WEIGHT
A small toy dog being 20.3 - 28 cms (8-11
inches) at the withers.
BREED PERSONALITY/CHARACTERISTICS/
TEMPERAMENT
This breed is a
friendly little dog.
Showing no aggression, is clean and easy to
manage in a small backyard or unit. Loves company, is very intelligent and
can be taught tricks or obedience.
Colour: white with patches which may be any
colour except liver. Tricolour.
Very eager to please and can make a good little watchdog.

COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER PETS
Will live happily with other pets. Care
should be taken with larger dogs because of their small size.
CARE REQUIREMENTS
Needs regular brushing and bathing as they do shed coat.
Care must taken with the ear canals on the drop eared variety.
Does not have many health problems but can occasionally
suffer from slipping patella's - check with breeder in this regard.
Enjoys walks
and regular exercise but is quite happy in a back yard.
